There are 195 recognized countries in the world. Where are you from? The answer most people will give you is that they are completely German, Turkish or Canadian. But we have not one origin. That doesn’t exist. Maybe you were born in the Netherlands. But what about your grandparents and their parents?
What is it?
Momondo brought a group of people together from all over the world with different nationalities. And started The DNA Journey. The question was; what would happen if you put a big group of people with different nationalities in one room? The were asked some questions and everyone was very proud and patriotic about their country.
“I think we are the best country in the world if I’m honest”
They were asked which nationality they disliked the most. The final question they were asked was if they would like to do a DNA test to see where their roots lays. There have been and still are a lot of wars and conflicts in the world. Most of the time it’s between different cultures and nationalities. We don’t accept someone for who they are so we start a fight. That’s the easy way to say it. Of course there is a lot more to it. Since 7th of January, when the headquarter of Charlie Hebdo in Paris was attacked, we have been dealing with some serious terrorist attacks and fear among a lot of people. It started with when a group of people who believed in the Islam radicalised. And didn’t accept the believes of others. The renamed their group the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, better know as ISIS. Since a long time people have a strong dislike to that part of the world. But maybe a little part of your roots lays there to. We need to learn to not judge so easily, because one group doesn’t stand for an entire nationality.
Why is it cool?
They were called back after a few days for their results. One by one they sat at a table and were told their outcome. When they heard their results most of them became very emotional. They found out that the nationality they said they didn’t like that much was also a little piece of them. Then they were asked if they would like to make a trip to all the countries. This video proves that nationality doesn’t matter. Maybe if this would be compulsory there would not be something as extremism. We’re all connected in one way and we all carry a piece with us from a different origin. So never judge someone by their nationality. Maybe it’s yours too.
“An open world begins with an open mind”
This is one of the most powerful movies I’ve ever seen. It’s so beautiful and eye opening. I would love if they gave everyone the chance to find out where they come from. The quality of life all over the world would be so much better if we knew that there doesn’t exist something as one pure race. Maybe the world would be a little more excepting and peaceful.
